Update: Technical Difficulties

Dear Blogger,

Lefty's is not a spam blog...

idk if anyone else got an email like this.

Your blog at: http://leftyslastcry.blogspot.com/ has been identified as a potential spam blog. To correct this, please request a review by filling out the form at http://www.blogger.com/unlock-blog.g?lockedBlogID=500162269956409657

Your blog will be deleted in 20 days if it isn't reviewed, and your readers will see a warning page during this time. After we receive your request, we'll review your blog and unlock it within two business days. Once we have reviewed and determined your blog is not spam, the blog will be unlocked and the message in your Blogger dashboard will no longer be displayed. If this blog doesn't belong to you, you don't have to do anything, and any other blogs you may have won't be affected.

We find spam by using an automated classifier. Automatic spam detection is inherently fuzzy, and occasionally a blog like yours is flagged incorrectly. We sincerely apologize for this error. By using this kind of system, however, we can dedicate more storage, bandwidth, and engineering resources to bloggers like you instead of to spammers. For more information, please see Blogger Help: http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42577

Thank you for your understanding and for your help with our spam-fighting efforts.

P.S. Just one more reminder: Unless you request a review, your blog will be deleted in 20 days. Click this link to request the review: http://www.blogger.com/unlock-blog.g?lockedBlogID=500162269956409657

I'm sure the whole thing will resolve itself once I let them know we're obviously not a spam blog. Now we're getting our site reviewed so blogger can conclude we're obviously not spam. Hopefully we'll have this cleared up in 20 days when the school year rolls in and we're expecting more traffic.

Idk why we were marked for spam, whether it was because we have a lot of writers, we use a lot of links, or we just show up a lot in search engines. We might have to change something about the blog to stay in compliance. Already I've noticed that there is now a word verification for making posts. The blogger spam page explains what a spam blog is:

What Are Spam Blogs?

As with many powerful tools, blogging services can be both used and abused. The ease of creating and updating webpages with Blogger has made it particularly prone to a form of behavior known as link spamming. Blogs engaged in this behavior are called spam blogs, and can be recognized by their irrelevant, repetitive, or nonsensical text, along with a large number of links, usually all pointing to a single site.

Hey, blogger, I know I ramble a lot in my posts but that was pretty harsh...

I got that too and clicked on that link. I wouldn't worry about it. When they check our blog they will plainly see it is not spam.

I'm wondering if some asshole that doesn't like our blog decided to flag us just to be a dick?

That is entirely likely. I wondered about that myself

Read this before you vote.

excuse me, but who is giving obama A's and B's? I need an explanation. This is fucking astonishing.

Bill said...

I gave him a C, but I can't expect everyone to be as big a pessimist as I am. I don't think anyone gave him an A.

ShamRockNRoll said...

I gave him a B, because I consider his performance so far "above average." While there is much room for criticism, he is trying harder to tackle this than most would, and I remain optimistic that we will see a reform package with a public option when all is said and done.

Anonymous said...

Above average? Average implies that there is more than one president of the US in the same circumstances as Obama. There is only one president. A president can have an "average" approval rating when compared with other presidents, but there is no "average president."

I'm with Blakey. If you are going to give him a grade it would be helpful to explain your reasoning.

I recently read this:

I was wondering what your opinions were.

I don't always agree with democrats, but being considered a spam blog is just messed up. Hope that gets fixed.

ShamRockNRoll said...

Anonymous, the grade is specifically for how he's handled healthcare reform thus far. It's not really supposed to be scientific, but considering Clinton tried and failed, and Bush didn't even give a shit, I consider the president to be doing an "above average" job thus far. I'm still waiting to see results though.

anonymous, your asking why obama is dropping in the polls, well maybe because the economy is shit. and he would rather spend money on bailing out giant corporations (be it banks, european banks, insurance companies, auto companies, defense contractors, etc) than actually helping the American people. He doesnt plan on having the economy recover, back to the way it was, he knows there will be sustained high unemployment though out the decade and he doesnt care. He doesnt want a re-vitalized manufacturing base, he doesnt really want us to move beyond a carbon economy. He is planning on pretending he reformed healthcare to get re-elected in 2012 with substantial help from the financial industry which owns him. Obama is a fraud and a hack, and a quisling for big money, and i cant fucking stand it. i volunteered for him, phone banked and knocked on doors. And every since he got in office he has dissapointed me in almost every metric. i will not work for him ever again, and havent even decided if i can make myself vote for him when i register in indiana. I am completely disgusted with the democrats at this point. I have no hope left.

The fact that this poll is not "scientific" means nothing. It is based on opinion. Opinions are formed from reasoning. I was curious about your logic.

Considering Clinton's failure brings up an interesting point. Currently, less than half of taxpayers would support government run health insurance. This is less than the percentage that supported the idea when Clinton initially considered it.

If you still say he is "above average" while referring to Bush and Clinton you are saying that he is better than a complete failure and someone who, "didn't even give a shit."

Apparently using links (aka citations and sources) qualifies as spam. What a wonderful world we live in.

Bill said...

They were more referring to repetitive links to try to mess with google results. I don't think we were marked as spam for the links. Either there's something messed up with their detection system or we were flagged by someone who doesn't like us.

ShamRockNRoll said...

Jesus H. Christ, anonymous, you're just looking for a fight aren't ya? LOL, it's just a casual opinion poll as you say.

And I don't know what source informed your opinion that less than half of Americans support "government-run" healthcare (it's really "government-run INSURANCE" that we're talking about) but the vast majority of polls on the issue show that to be untrue. I've seen recent numbers as high as 72% in support of it, with most polls more around the 60s.

ShamRockNRoll said...

Blakey, you really think Obama is a "hack"? ...6 months into office? Really???

Take a deep breath. Hold. Annnd, exhale...

Look, I agree that Obama isn't perfect, and I've criticized him on many things including the speed (or lack thereof) of his reversing Bush era terrorism policies, gay rights issues and not taking a strong enough stand on healthcare, but come on. Hack is a bit strong, no? We don't even know where the cards are going to fall with healthcare yet, and I think he has made a lot of progress given the incredible problems he inherited. I'd save judging him as a "hack" until we see some more results, and in the meantime, keep pushing for the kinds of reforms we want to see.

I am not looking for a fight. I was just asking for an explanation of your opinion. If this is somehow offensive or bothers you in some way, don't answer.

Neither me nor the source that I cited previously used the term "healthcare." Instead I said "health insurance," as did the source. You, on the other hand, say "healthcare" four times (and Blakey once).

I would be interested in reading the poll(s) that you say show 72% support in favor of Obama's plan. Do you have any links?

Is it possible to have a place to comment about the polls specifically rather than commenting under an unrelated blog entry?

ShamRockNRoll said...

Anonymous, chill man... you just seemed very taken aback by the poll, and it's the kind of thing where we expect people to look at it real quick, and go, "eh... B." without a whole lot of extensive analysis.

Anyway, the 72% number was, I believe, from a NYT/WSJ poll maybe a month ago? You can find a blog about it on this site, let me look...

...yeah, ok, here's the blog where I referenced that particular poll: http://leftyslastcry.blogspot.com/2009/06/attn-democrats-dont-fck-this-up.html

...but I've also seen a lot of other polls with slightly lower numbers, but still in the 60s that I'm not going to go look up again at the moment, as it's Saturday, and I need a beer :)

Anyways... regarding your desire to comment on the polls in a forum besides an unrelated blog post, that's something I've been thinking about too, and we'll try to address that when school is back in session. In the meantime, people are engaged in other things, and worrying about moving back home/to campus or whatnot, so it will be a while before we add any more substantive stylistic changes to the blog.

Bill said...

basically to allow commenting on the polls we would have to stop using blogger's default poll format and make our own. The upshot would be that we could make the poll appear as a post and allow people to comment on them. The downside would be that the polls would move down the page as more posts come, instead of staying on top of the page all the time like we have it now.

Maybe we should make a poll about polls?

ShamRockNRoll said...

Maybe a way to mitigate both interests would be to put the poll up top like we usually do, and then have a post dedicated to commenting on said poll... just a thought. We'll have to brainstorm on that when we're all back in the bend.

Bill said...

it would be sweet if we could sync them up so that the poll on the post and the poll up top were the same. The best part about it is we could keep track of our past polls without having to keep track of our screen shots

Bill said...

changed my mind. If I could vote again, I'd give him an F. Maybe an F-
