It's time to wake up

The time is ripe for comprehensive immigration reform. There are calls to action from all sides; from liberals, conservatives, faith leaders, business leaders, and more. Furthermore, three House Republicans  David Valadao, R-CA, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-FL, and Jeff Denham, R-CA  have recently announced their support for H.R. 15, a bill that parallels the immigration bill passed by the Senate in June.

The bill does not have nearly enough support at this point to pass, but the recent trend of Republicans signing on has me hopeful. I believe that, with continued pressure from constituents, we could see Republicans continue to change their stance one-by-one. There is a limited amount of time before the House legislative session ends for the year, so the rate at which Republican supporters for H.R. 15 emerge will have to increase in order for anything to happen this year. I hope something does come together, because not only will it help somewhat to restore Americans' waning faith in Congress but it will also help save lives, keep families together, and make our country a better place.

If you need some more inspiration, watch this music video featuring singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc and directed by Alex Rivera. In addition to great music, the video tells a story that reflects the experiences of many Latino immigrants. Also, almost all the actors in the video have been adversely affected by the problems with our current immigration system.
